Life is too short to spend hiding your smile behind your hand or avoiding photos because you don’t like the look of your teeth. Consider investing in yourself and your appearance with porcelain veneers — a quick way to dramatically make over your smile.
Read on as Vacaville cosmetic dentist Dr. Bruce Bosler of Bosler Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry explains why veneers are a staple among cosmetic dentists.
What Porcelain Veneers Can Correct
Porcelain veneers are tiny pieces of porcelain that slip over the surface of imperfect or flawed teeth. They are designed to conceal the appearance of the following imperfections:
- Stains and discoloration
- Small chips and cracks
- Unevenness in the shape, length or width of the teeth
- Small spaces between the teeth
Veneers can also be used to replace old, outdated crowns or bridges that look conspicuous in the mouth. By comparison, veneers blend in seamlessly with the surrounding teeth.
Advantage of Porcelain Veneers
Cosmetic dentists frequently recommend porcelain veneers because they are one of the more lifelike dental restorations. Due to their size and the translucence of porcelain, veneers closely resemble natural tooth enamel. They are color-matched to the patient’s natural teeth and custom-created to meet their measurements and specifications. Every patient receives a set of veneers fabricated specifically for their needs and goals.
In addition to looking natural, porcelain is extremely strong and durable. The material can withstand the forces of chewing and won’t stain or discolor. With the proper care and maintenance, veneers can last for many years.
Also, the placement process for veneers is straightforward and reversible. Since veneers are so thin, they do not require a significant amount of tooth structure (if any) to be shaved or grinded off to make room for the veneers. As such, treatment can be easily reversed and the veneers removed if desired.
Veneers can be placed in two short visits with Dr. Bosler
During the first appointment, he takes an exact impression (a mold) of the teeth and helps the patient pick out their desired tooth shade (a shade of white). The mold is sent to the dental lab that creates the veneers. When they are ready, the patient returns to the office and Dr. Bosler bonds the veneers to the teeth to immediately transform their appearance. Patients are thrilled when they finally have that “movie star” white smile!

Diet plays a huge role in the color and appearance of the teeth. The enamel of the teeth is porous and therefore vulnerable to staining. Brightly or darkly colored foods and beverages can be absorbed by the teeth; once the stains become embedded in the tooth enamel, they can be difficult to get out. In addition to colored foods, acidic foods and beverages are also risky. The acid wears away at tooth enamel, making the teeth more vulnerable to stains.
If you want to maintain a bright white smile, this post is for you. In it, Dr. Bruce Bosler of Bosler Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry in Vacaville reveals the most common teeth-staining foods and beverages to avoid. He also shares a tried-and-true solution to lift existing teeth stains and discolorations and create a more beautiful smile.
Eating a diet high in the following foods and beverages is likely to discolor the teeth:
Red and white wine
Sports drinks (e.g., Gatorade)
Limiting your intake of these foods and beverages is beneficial for the appearance of your teeth (and in some cases, the health of your teeth, too). Swap out these offenders for foods and beverages that are more teeth-friendly, like apples, pears, spinach and cruciferous vegetables.
How to Eradicate Existing Stains
If your teeth are already stained or discolored, Dr. Bosler can help. Professional teeth whitening with the Zoom! system can transform a dull or dingy smile, lifting stains and correcting discoloration. Dr. Bosler can lighten the teeth an average of 8 shades in a single appointment. He can also control the treatment to minimize any tooth sensitivity to the bleaching gel.
During a Zoom! appointment, Dr. Bosler applies the bleaching gel to the teeth and activates it with a specially designed light. The combination of gel and light breaks up and eliminates teeth stains and discoloration. After 15 minutes, Dr. Bosler removes the gel. He repeats the process three to four times until the teeth are noticeably lighter and brighter. After treatment, take-home whitening trays are provided to use for periodic touch-ups.
